OUR NEW SITE!

Over the past few months, we have been busy preparing the first of 3 new houses at our new site in Richmond, ready for the clients who will call it home.

When learning about our expanding services, the Harvey Norman McGraths Hill teams couldn’t wait to get involved and play a role in providing additional support for people in our community living with a disability.

Together, the bedding, living and furniture and electrical teams from Harvey Norman McGraths Hill donated over $18,500 worth of brand new products, helping us to furnish the first of the 3 homes. On top of this donation, the teams organised delivery and helped us prepare the home ready for our recent ‘family and friends’ open home morning.

We are so appreciative of the bedding, living and furniture and electrical teams at Harvey Norman McGraths Hill for their generosity and support in partnering with New Haven Farm Home, and their help in turning this house into a home.

Over the coming months, 4 clients will be moving into this newly furnished home, receiving the support they need to live as independently as possible and achieve their goals.

New Haven Farm Home is continuing to prepare the second house ready for service delivery.

Once fully operational, this site of three new villas, will provide support for an additional 12 individuals from our community a great step towards addressing the service shortage impacting people in our local area.

MEET MICHAEL!

Michael lives at New Haven Farm Home’s semi-rural property at Freemans Reach.

He has a real interest in attending and being involved in meetings about our community. He is particularly interested in learning more about the Mayor of Hawkesbury.

Michael recently attended the AGM for Nepean Community College, where he is completing his reading and writing course. Michael had the opportunity to speak at this meeting and did a fantastic job!

Every Friday, Michael goes to Zumba at the Active8 Gym in Richmond. He loves going to zumba, dancing and exercising to some of his favourite music; having fun and looking after his heath and fitness at the same time.

Michael loves being out in the community; socialising; going to clubs; out for a cappuccino and participating in every day activities such as doing the grocery shopping; going to his reading and writing class; going out and chatting with his friends.

Michael is currently working towards his goal of participating in more activities that build his social skills and enable him to be included in mainstream society.

EXCITING NEWS!

While New Haven Farm Home has been successfully supporting individuals living with a disability for over 57 years, there is an increasing need for us to expand our service availability to meet the growing demand in our community.

We are very excited to be able to share with you the news that New Haven Farm Home is taking the steps to address this demand by growing our supported accommodation and lifestyle support services, opening a new and additional site in Richmond.

Once fully operational, this site of 3 new villas, will provide support for an additional 12 individuals from our community a great step towards addressing the service shortage impacting people in our local area.

A sense of belonging to a greater community improves ones motivation, health and happiness it is a human need, just like the need for food and shelter, so we are very pleased to be able to increase our role in creating a positive change for the people in our community living with a disability.

COFFEE AND COMMUNITY 2017

On Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December 2017, New Haven Farm Home partnered with Gloria Jeans Windsor Riverview to bring a fun, family friendly and social event to the Hawkesbury community.

In line with International Day of People with a Disability held in December, this event was a great success, helping New Haven Farm Home increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability, celebrating their achievements and contributions to our community.

Gloria Jeans Windsor Rierview not only supported New Haven Farm Home in partnering with us in this event and donating 50c from every regular or large coffee sold over th event weekend, but also practically demonstrate their support of our organisation and people with a disability by providing a weekly work experience opportunity for New Haven Farm Home client Shaun.

New Haven Farm Home supports clients, like Shaun, to achieve their personal goals through an individualised approach to support, skill development and community inclusion. It is important that each person is the centre of any decisions made about their life, with choices in the activities they participate in; the skills they would like to learn and develop, and the goals they would like to achieve.
Shaun enjoys hospitality and interacting with people. One of his goals was to find work experience in a local Hawkesbury café and this is where the team at Gloria Jeans Windsor Riverview stepped in, offering Shaun a weekly work experience placement. Shaun is very proud of his role at Gloria Jeans Windsor Riverview and always feels like a valued member of their team. Each Friday morning, Shaun can be found in the café helping to clear and clean tables, care for the dishwasher and keep the benches clean, while greeting and thanking customers.

This support from Gloria Jeans Windsor Riverview is helping Shaun build his skills in hospitality; his social skills and is giving him an increased sense of belonging as a valued and contributing member of our community.
Over 20 local businesses got behind behind this event to show their support with over 36 prizes valued at over $4,000 in total being donated towards our Mega Raffle.

Thanks to the generosity of everyone who came to the event, purchased a raffle ticket, coffee or made a donation as well as the many local businesses that got behind the event to donate prizes, products and services, over $3300 was raised during the weekend event. These funds will be used to help provide New Haven Farm Home clients even more opportunities to achieve their goals. Thank you so much!

NHFH CHRISTMAS LUNCH

It was wonderful to celebrate Christmas with New Haven Farm Home clients, their family members, friends and NHFH staff in December last year.

The lunch, held at the Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley on Sunday 3rd December, was a great chance for us to share and celebrate in some of the many achievements New Haven Farm Home clients have made over the past 12 months.

Thank you to all of the family members and friends who joined us at the event. Both clients and staff enjoyed being able to celebrate the end of the year with you.

KEITH AND ROY VISIT CANBERRA

Keith and Roy had a fantastic trip to Canberra for a few days with their New Haven Farm Home support worker Bernadette in November.
Leaving bright and early in the morning, the men enjoyed stopping along the way to take in some sights before reaching Canberra.

Keith and Roy enjoyed seeing many of the local sites, including the Australian National Botanic Gardens; Parliament House; Lake Burley Griffin and they even went up Telstra Tower. The highlight, however, was to attend the National Remembrance Day Service at the Australian War Memorial.
Following the service, the men had the opportunity to meet and chat with some of the service personnel and stop for some photos before heading into the War Memorial to look at the displays.

In sharing his time away with office staff on their return, Roy said he was most taken back by having the opportunity to attend the Remembrance Day service and to see the grave of the unknown soldier.
Both Keith and Roy had a great time away and really enjoyed seeing Canberra. Thanks to Bernadette for supporting the men in seeing so many of the different sites and supporting them in achieving this goal.
